Prof. Dr. C. V. Andrews is an eminent ophthalmologist, academician, administrator, and leader of the medical fraternity. With a professional journey spanning over four decades, he has rendered service to patient care, medical education, research, and professional leadership.
A First Rank holder in BSc Botany, Prof. Andrews went on to complete his MBBS from Government Medical College, Kottayam, followed by DOMS and MS in Ophthalmology from the prestigious M & J Institute of Ophthalmology, Ahmedabad. His pursuit of excellence extends beyond clinical practice, with advanced qualifications in hospital management, quality assurance, medical education, and academic leadership.
He served as Medical Superintendent, Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur, from 2002 to 2021, and continues to serve as Professor Emeritus, Chief Consultant Ophthalmologist, and Chief of Quality Accreditation. As an administrator, he has ably guided the institution as Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal, contributing significantly to quality systems and institutional excellence.
A revered teacher and examiner, Prof. Andrews has mentored generations of undergraduate and postgraduate students and has been an examiner for multiple universities across India. His scholarly contributions include over 200 scientific presentations and publications. His academic and professional excellence has been recognised with prestigious honours including the Dr. Sankara Menon Medical Gold Medal, Dr. C. E. Oommen Memorial Oration, and the Dr. P. N. Sinha Fellowship. Within the Indian Medical Association, Prof. Andrews has served the association in various leadership roles including Secretary, President, Central Council Member, and presently as District Convener for Blindness Control. He was instrumental in the founding and naming of the IMA Jubilee Mission Branch.
