The contact lens clinic at the hospital dispenses a wide variety of lenses ranging from soft lenses to toric , Rose K and scleral lenses. The latter are primarily used in irregular corneas like keratoconus and scarred corneas.
Soft contact lens is a thin, flexible lens made of water-containing plastics called hydrogels or silicone hydrogels. Used to correct vision problems like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia. Available in different types: daily disposable, bi-weekly, monthly, extended wear, and colored lenses. Soft toric contact lens is designed to correct astigmatism (a refractive error caused by an irregularly shaped cornea or lens). Unlike regular spherical soft lenses that only correct myopia or hyperopia, toric lenses have different powers in different meridians to correct uneven curvature and orientation markings to help the lens stay in the right position.
RGP lenses are small, firm contact lenses made of oxygen-permeable materials and are useful for patients with high astigmatism, keratoconus, or irregular corneas. They provide better optical quality than soft lenses but may take a longer adaptation period. Rose K contact lens is a specially designed rigid gas permeable (RGP) lens mainly used for patients with keratoconus and irregular corneas. It has a multicurve design that matches the cone-shaped cornea and provides sharper vision by correcting corneal irregularities. Available in different types (Rose K2, Rose K2 IC, Rose K2 XL) to suit different severities.
Scleral contact lens is a large-sized rigid gas permeable (RGP) lens that rests entirely on the sclera and creates a fluid-filled space over the cornea. It vaults over the cornea without touching it. The fluid reservoir helps mask corneal irregularities and keeps the eye constantly moist. It provides excellent comfort and stable vision, especially in keratoconus, dry eye, corneal scars, and post-surgery eyes. The irritation is less since it doesn’t rub on the cornea.
Our Low Vision and Rehabilitation Clinic provides comprehensive care for individuals with visual impairments, aiming to enhance their functional vision and independence. Our team offers personalized evaluations and rehabilitation programs tailored to each patient's unique needs.
Evaluation Services:
- Visual Acuity Assessment: Measuring visual sharpness and clarity to determine the extent of vision loss.
- Contrast Sensitivity Testing: Evaluating the ability to distinguish different levels of contrast, essential for daily activities.
- Visual Field Assessment: Mapping the field of vision to identify any blind spots or areas of reduced sensitivity.
Rehabilitation :
- Low Vision Aids: Prescribing and training patients on the use of magnifiers, telescopes, and other assistive devices to enhance daily functioning.
- Adaptive Techniques: Teaching patients strategies to adapt to their visual limitations, such aseccentric viewing and improved lighting.
- Orientation and Mobility Training: Enhancing navigation skills and independence through the use of mobility aids.
Our Low Vision and Rehabilitation Clinic is dedicated to helping individuals with visual impairments achieve their maximum potential and live fulfilling lives.
Our Orthoptic Clinic is dedicated to diagnosing and treating disorders related to eye movement and alignment. Our team provides personalized care to patients of all ages, focusing on improving vision and eye coordination. We use Orthoptek™ in addition to the traditional patching to treat lazy eye ( amblyopia), enhance binocular vision, stereopsis and strengthen weaker eyes.
In Paralytic Squints, we use diagnostic tools like Hess and Diplopia charting to assess and monitor eye alignment issues. Customized prism lenses are used to alleviate symptoms of double vision and eye strain caused by paralytic squints.
Our treatments help restore proper eye alignment, reducing symptoms like double vision and eye strain. By addressing amblyopia and other eye movement disorders, we aim to improve overall visual function and quality of life.
Our Orthoptic Clinic is committed to providing high-quality care and helping patients achieve better vision and eye health.
The Dry Eye Clinic at Dr. Tony Fernandez Eye Hospital is dedicated to the comprehensive diagnosis and personalized management of Dry Eye Disease. Our patient-centered approach ensures that every individual receives tailored care based on their unique symptoms and needs.
Each patient presenting with dry eye symptoms undergoes a detailed evaluation, which includes:
Based on the evaluation, the underlying causes and severity of dry eye are identified. Patients receive personalized counselling on lifestyle modifications and preventive measures, along with a customized treatment plan.
Our treatment options include:
We also follow up patients regularly based on the severity of their condition and modify treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal long-term results.
At Dr. Tony Fernandez Eye Hospital, we strive to provide holistic and effective care to enhance eye comfort and improve quality of life for patients with dry eye disease.
Our Diabetic Retinopathy Clinic is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with diabetes-related eye problems. Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced technology to diagnose and manage diabetic retinopathy, ensuring timely treatment and preserving vision.
1. Fundus Photography: Captures high-resolution images of the retina, allowing for detailed examination and monitoring of diabetic retinopathy. We offer retinal screening (without dilatation) using retinal laser photographs.
2. Widefield Photography: We use 163° Ultrawide Field Colour Images which provides a broader view of the retina, enabling detection of peripheral retinal lesions and ischemia. We also take these photographs.
3. Fluorescein Angiography: Helps identify areas of leakage, ischemia, and neovascularization, guiding treatment decisions.
4. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT): Offers cross-sectional imaging of the retina, detecting structural changes and guiding treatment. Our clinic uses high definition wide area OCT to detect and monitor pathology over a wider area.
5. OCT Angiography (OCTA): Non-invasively visualizes retinal and choroidal vasculature, detecting abnormalities and monitoring disease progression.
1. Early Detection: Advanced imaging technologies enable early detection of diabetic retinopathy, allowing for timely treatment and prevention of vision loss.
2. Personalized Care: Our experienced team tailors treatment plans to individual patient needs, ensuring optimal care.
3. Monitoring Disease Progression: Regular imaging and follow-up appointments enable close monitoring of disease progression, guiding treatment adjustments.
Our clinic offers various treatment options, including:
1. Intravitreal Injections: Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections to reduce edema and slow disease progression.
2. Laser Photocoagulation: Targeted laser treatment to reduce edema, prevent vision loss, and treat proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
3. Diabetic Vitrectomy : Surgery helps in restoring some amount of vision loss in advanced diabetic eye disease by removing significant bleed, reattaching the retina, and eliminating traction related complications. It requires hospital admission, may require silicone oil insertion and post operative positioning. We use small guage(25G) MIVS systems in order to obtain faster healing and recovery.
Our Diabetic Retinopathy Clinic provides comprehensive care, leveraging advanced technology and expertise to diagnose and manage diabetic retinopathy. By detecting and treating the condition early, we aim to preserve vision and improve patient outcomes.
