This year’s annual CME
program, Kaazhcha 2025, was successfully held on 15th June 2025 at
Hotel Monsoon Empress, Kochi. The event was inaugurated by KSOS President Dr.
Mahesh G, with the traditional lighting
of the lamp. Dr.Mahesh honoured Dr. E.J. Mani, Senior Ophthalmologist, for his
unwavering services. He was also presented with the book “My Journey to Fight
Cataract Blindness Over 50 Years” authored by Dr. Tony Fernandez, and its
Malayalam translation “Thimiram” by Dr. Karthika Mohandas.
The theme of this
year’s CME was “Wake up call: The impact of life style diseases on eye health”.
The sessions began with anterior segment consequences such as computer vision
syndrome ,management of progressive myopia and also covered retinal vascular diseases such
as diabetic retinopathy and retinal
vascular occlusions. The sessions ended with a thought-provoking panel
discussion on interdisciplinary approach to patients with lifestyle disorders.
National faculties Dr.
Dhanashree Ratra and Dr. Manavi D Sindal enriched the diabetic retinopathy
sessions with their insightful presentations. Eminent speakers from KSOS led
the rest of the sessions through engaging case-based discussions, covering a wide
range of practical clinical challenges.
A key highlight of the
event was an interactive panel discussion moderated by Dr. Gopal S Pillai,
featuring distinguished experts from various specialties. The discussion
focused on the collaborative management of lifestyle disorders impacting ocular
health.
Another major
attraction was the unique “Round the Clock Retina” session — a dynamic,
round-table interactive segment tailored for postgraduate students and general
ophthalmologists, emphasizing practical aspects of retinal investigations. A
book was gifted to every
postgraduates on “Revision guide
on Clinical trials and investigations”. Delegates were gifted a copy of the
book “Revision Guide on Clinical Trials and Investigations.”
Kaazhcha 2025 was
organized by a dedicated team under the able guidance of Dr. Freddy T Simon and
Dr. Mini David K. The event saw enthusiastic participation and was widely
appreciated as an academic feast and a grand success.
